We know that the BOM list needs to contain a lot of information, but the information required in it does not seem to be significantly different from the product parts list we are familiar with, but it is not. The content required by the BOM list is relatively more detailed. Today, PCB Future will provide you with some references. How much do you know about the difference between the BOM list and the product parts list
1. Each material in the bill of materials has its unique code, the material number, which is very clear to the material. The general section shows that there are no such strict rules in the detail lists. Parts lists are attached to single products and do not necessarily take into account the uniqueness of material codes across the enterprise.
2. The hierarchical relationship between parts and departments in the bill of materials must reflect the actual assembly process. The assembly parts on some drawings may not appear in the actual assembly process, but may also appear in the bill of materials.
3. The bill of materials should include the raw materials, blanks and some consumables required for the product, taking into account the qualified rate of end products. The parts list neither includes materials not shown on the drawing nor reflects consumption quotas for materials. The BOM list is mainly used for planning and control. Therefore, in principle all planning objects can be included in the BOM list.
4. According to the needs of management, in different shape parts, such as casting, forging blanks, processed parts and machined parts and repainted parts of different colors, should be given different codes in the bill of materials to distinguish and manage. Parts lists are not usually handled this way.
5. Which materials should be listed on the bill of materials is very flexible and can be changed by the user. For example, processing stamping parts requires a special mold in addition to the raw steel sheet. When building a bill of materials, you can hang the mold as an outsourced part on the lower layer of the stamping part. Its relationship with the number of stamping parts is the mold consumption quota.
6. The order of large parts and sub-parts in the BOM list should reflect the assembly order of each sub-part. The order of part numbers in the parts list is mainly for the convenience of drawing.
From the above six points, it is not difficult to see that the BOM list is more strict than the ordinary parts list, but it is also more flexible and free. This is also one of the convenient services that the PCB industry can provide to customers today. The aim is to give customers more freedom and flexibility to choose which components they want to install.
